MATTHEW’S STORY

Matthew Kimo Householder was born on the first day of summer, June 21, 1984.

Affectionately called Kimo, traits of his Pacific Islander heritage were evident in his infectious smile, dimples that charmed, and laughing brown eyes that danced!

Challenged with Tourette’s Syndrome and ADD, he nevertheless experienced the world head on, a risk taker, who loved sports.  Whether playing football, hockey, swimming or baseball, his name on that jersey solidified that he mattered, that he belonged. He especially loved baseball where he could run like the wind stealing bases!

Unfortunately, his life’s journey detoured down the rocky road of drug addiction and shattered dreams.  But his love of family and compassion for others was strong.  In rehab, he literally gave the shirt off his back to others less fortunate.

On November 19, 2017, Kimo’s tragic death turned into magical Gifts of Life to five others.  His family’s decision to donate his organs was what he would have wanted – to help others.

Kimo’s liver gave a second chance at life to a mother in her 50’s to experience her Christmas birthday once again with her daughter and husband.

His lungs enable a man to breathe easier; his left kidney and pancreas brings better health to a man in his 40’s.  His right kidney is assisting the life of a woman in her 50’s, and his heart of gold is now bringing renewed strength to a man in his 50’s.

God blessed Kimo to bring light into the darkness of others through his organ donations.
