DOMINICS’S STORY

Dominic Hooper was born June 28th 1996.  He had an infectious, happy personality, was a wonderful, caring young man and a very driven person with a great sense of humor. His compassion for others was astonishing and his kind, selfless, and generous heart was unending.  Dominic (Dom) loved life and lived each day to the fullest. His passions were playing sports, hanging with friends, and having fun.

On February 21, 2014 Dominic suffered a brain injury after his four-wheeler overturned and was declared brain dead 2 days later.  His family knew that he would have never hesitated to help someone in need. They made the decision to donate his organs so others would have a chance to live.  At the age of 17, Dominic became a hero to 5 individuals who were waiting for an organ transplant. His liver gave a second chance to a beautiful 7 year old girl who enjoys dancing and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.  Dom’s heart allowed a 27 year old young man to become a father. His right kidney granted a 40 year old woman to fulfill her dream of getting married. Dominic’s lungs were given to a 43 year old husband and father of two who has since been able to play basketball with his children.  His left kidney and pancreas were gifted to a 31 year old college student who can continue to enjoy life with his family.

In the years following the accident, Dominic’s family has become very active in promoting organ donation awareness and encouraging people to register.  They believe people need to have a better knowledge of the facts and myths surrounding donation. Since Dominic’s accident, countless people have registered as donors.  Through awareness and education, Dom’s family hopes to inspire others to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors and to share their wishes with their family and friends.
