LEAH’S STORY

Twenty-two-year old Leah Elizabeth Brown of Shawnee, Kansas was a fearless young woman with a contagious smile and an irreverent charm. She was as at home on her motorcycle as she was on a horse at YMCA camp serving as a counselor or in the stands of a football game, cheering for her brother Anthony in a way no one else could.

Leah was born March 1, 1995 in Kansas City, MO. She had a knack for winning over everyone she met. As a child, she enjoyed serving at the altar of Queen of the Holy Rosary School, she played a variety of sports at Bishop Miege High School and she continued her education at Johnson County Community College and Fort Hays State University before joining the United States Navy.

She was grateful and gracious, a young woman who was appreciative of the smallest gestures of love given to her by others. She felt the best way to spend time was with family and friends. Not only did she enjoy riding her motorcycle, she loved dancing, roller skating, riding horses, “Taco Tuesdays”, baking, spontaneity and laughing.

A stray bullet, meant for someone else, caused her untimely death on October 1, 2017. However, her family and friends know she had lived life to the fullest and, as a vocal supporter of organ donation, her gifts are now benefitting at least 50 recipients.

Fittingly, beneath her final Instagram post, Leah wrote simply and passionately, “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”
