JOSELUIS’ STORY

Joseluis was 23 years old when his life was taken.  He was hardworking, responsible, and fully dedicated to his family. Joseluis was a father of three young children. He had four sisters who adored him with all their heart, and a mother and father who spoiled him to his very last day.

Joseluis had a unique sense of humor and always made everyone laugh. He was always well dressed and nicely groomed and was always in a happy mood.  Joseluis loved art. Drawing, attending art walks, exploring different restaurants, and maintaining his car were his biggest hobbies.  Joseluis believed that one day he would become a millionaire with his artwork and creative ideas. Fokis was his artistic signature. With organ donation, Joseluis became worth more than a million to his family and to all those he helped give a second chance to live.

On November 29th, 2012, Joseluis woke up, got ready for work and said good-bye to his parents.  His father blessed him and wished him a good day at work.  Just two hours from finishing his shift at the Pawnshop where he worked, Joseluis was sent by his boss to deliver a package to the post office in Long Beach when he came across some individuals who took his life.

On December 1st, 2012, Joseluis was declared brain dead. For the family, it was a very difficult decision to donate his organs, because they were all in great shock with his sudden passing.  Through his organ donation, Joseluis helped save five lives and the family has been able to meet one of his kidney recipients.

To honor Joseluis, his sisters have served as Ambassadors. His family also participates in the yearly Donate Life Run/Walk and Donate Life Rose Parade Float decorating events.

By continuously sharing his story, Joseluis’ family has inspired many to become registered organ, eye and tissue donors.  His family believes that “life goes on” through organ donation.  Joseluis’ legacy will forever live!  –“STAY FOKIS”, Forever 23.
