HERBERT’S STORY

Herbert was born on January 18, 1986, and he was the life of the family.  The only son, Herbert was kind, loving, and he always brought happiness to all of his family and friends.  Herbert was a goofball, but understanding with everyone.  He was a world traveler and leader.

Herbert attended St. Peter’s Espiscopal Elementary School, St. Katherin’s Military Academy, Mary Start of the Sea and Bishop Montgomery High Schools.  In May 1998, Herbert received honorary recognition as one of the “Future Leaders of San Pedro.”  Herbert received a graduate degree in Business and Administration and was running his own company before he died.

A longtime resident of San Pedro and Rancho Palos Verdes, California, Herbert died on August 15, 2015, at the age of 29.  Before his fatal accident, Herbert and his cousin/best friend made a plan and commitment for them to have children so they could all grow up together and continue their friendship.  Herbert and his fiancé had already chosen names for their unborn children, as they had already made arrangements to travel to Australia to get married.  Herbert’s family is grateful to have James, born months after Herbert’s life ended.

Herbert loved to help people.  He was a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and loved to work in this field.  Herbert donated blood to the Red Cross twice a year.  Herbert’s family feels that donating his organs was the best decision.  In addition to knowing that others are alive because of Herbert, they are also comforted because they feel Herbert is alive in his recipients and Herbert’s mother feels “this helps us go on in life without him.”  Herbert’s family feels the Donate Life organization has been “a rock to help us on the difficult transition we are enduring” and that Herbert would be proud that in his last moments, he gave other people the gift of life.

Herbert is survived by his parents, fiancé Evelyn Arana and their beautiful child, James.
