BRYAN’S STORY

Bryan Herrington, husband, father of 5, youngest sibling of 4, was always one to help and serve where needed.  After graduating from Florida State University, he headed to Orlando, to find a way to utilize his degree in Graphic Arts, and provide for his three kids at the time.  There he met his wife, Terri, and eventually they moved back to Pensacola to help his mom and stepdad with the family roofing business. He could not find a job within his career, so he used his degree to start a new roofing company, White Sands Roof Systems. Over the course of the years, it became evident that Bryan wanted to teach others in the continuing education realm.  This was just another way he wanted to help people.

On July 13, 2004, Bryan and his brother Ed responded to a call from a client where water was leaking in through the roof that their company was currently working on.  Both brothers responded to help the homeowner with Bryan on one side of the roof and his brother on the other. The slippery PVC caused Bryan to lose his footing and fall catching a tree and landing on an A/C unit.  Bryan never woke from that fall. Many years prior, Bryan had decided to register as an organ donor at his local DMV. On July 14, 2004, it became evident that Bryan’s service to others and heartfelt concern over others came to fruition when the doctors informed his family that he was brain dead.

Thanks to his decision, Bryan gave a second chance at life to Mary Jo with functioning lungs, Jeff with a left kidney and pancreas, Howard with a liver, and to his heart and right kidney recipient. His tissues have helped over 10 burn victims and their families.

Because Bryan always lived a life of servitude in all his endeavors, he is still serving others, and his recipients are continuing to thrive 14 years later. Our hope is that everyone is willing to give the “gift of life” to others.
