LILYANNE’S STORY

Lilyanne "Lily" James of Waretown, New Jersey, was just three years old when her bright spirit touched hearts in ways far beyond her years. Known for her big hugs, laughter, and boundless love, Lily brought joy to everyone around her. She was bright-eyed, curious, and full of energy, always eager to play with her brothers or share a smile that could light up any room.

On July 14, 2022, Lily and her mother, Denise, tragically lost their lives in a motor vehicle accident. Her father, Craig, and her brothers, Nicholas and Robert, continue to honor her memory each day.

In the midst of unimaginable grief, Craig made the selfless decision to donate Lily's organs so that others could live. Lily's heart and liver saved the lives of two young boys, and her kidneys gave the gift of renewed health to an adult in need. In doing so, Lily became a true hero whose legacy continues to ripple outward.

Craig shares that the decision to say ‘yes' to donation was guided by love and empathy. "I put myself in the shoes of a parent of a young child who needs an organ," he said. "I knew donation was the right thing to do, and something Denise would have wanted for Lily, too. Lily's legacy now lives on through others."

Since Lily's passing, Craig and his family have been embraced by their community, their parish, and countless friends and strangers who were inspired by Lily's story. Many have registered as organ and tissue donors after learning about her gift of life.

Lily's story serves as a reminder that even the smallest among us can make the biggest difference. Lily's legacy is one of love, hope, and healing—a lasting gift that continues to save and enhance lives.
