KATIE’S STORY
Protector of vulnerable people, bubbly personality, ridiculously funny, self-deprecating, humble, kind, cherished human, loyal friend, beacon of light, joyful, family-focused, and lover and guardian of animals. Katie had a natural flair for design that made her such a well-dressed woman. She had the uncanny ability to go into anyone's closet and create a stunning ensemble with accessories.
These terms were used by Katie's huge circle of friends and family to describe her at her service in August 2024. Her death at age 28 rocked many of their lives. The extensive circle of friends and family at the service was a palpable testimony to the love people felt for her.
Katie Sedor had an extraordinary life filled with many solid friendships, her long-term boyfriend, Garrett, and a close-knit family. Katie had many profound experiences packed into a relatively short life. It was a good life! Her legacy will live on in their memories, as well as in the memories of others. Her selfless decision to be an organ donor brings them great happiness. It represents who she was while alive. Katie had decided as a teenager to be an organ donor upon death and had designated that on her driver's license. That firm decision gave her family great comfort and fortitude to carry out her wishes when she was declared brain dead. Katie's heart lives on in a young boy, one kidney in a young girl, and the other kidney in a woman. Her lungs and pancreas were donated for research. God has a plan for all of our lives and is sovereign over everything.
Katie graduated from Bonita High School in La Verne, CA, and from college at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. She excelled academically and athletically during her high school and college years.
From age 14, Katie struggled with chronic, severe inflammatory bowel disease and other autoimmune disorders. She died suddenly of complications related to these diseases. Her family is hopeful that with advancements in targeted immune treatments, autoimmune disorders will be eradicated in their lifetime. God bless Katie in your kingdom.
