SIWUTHA’S STORY

Siwutha “Sam” Meas was born in 1961 in Cambodia; she was the eldest in a family of six children. In the 1970’s, the family made the decision to migrate to the United States as refugees fleeing the Khmer Rouge Regime.

Siwutha and her family settled in Dallas, Texas in 1976, where she met her husband, Khandy. They married and had three children. They worked diligently to bring to life their American dream and to ensure their children had everything they needed to succeed. Siwutha was an affectionate mother. She loved unconditionally. She inspired her children in many ways, specifically, her two daughters who are now hardworking, resilient women and amazing mothers because of her. Siwutha’s children formed families of their own, and she became a grandmother. She loved being a grandmother. She was always there to support her grandchildren during milestones in their lives. Her six grandchildren were her life.

Faith was also important to Siwutha. She loved her church and spent most of her time learning more about her faith. Her faith changed her whole outlook on life. She never hesitated to help those in need. She was always led by the scripture: “It is more blessed to give than receive.” And she certainly did just that.

On July 19, 2020, Siwutha became an organ donor and selflessly gave the gift of life to save others. Although this was a difficult loss for the family, her daughter explained how the decision regarding donation was rather simple to make, “We knew that was what she would have wanted. She was a giving and loving person. Her heart was bigger than her body.”

Siwutha’s family is thankful for the healthcare staff at Kaiser Redwood City and Donor Network West, as they provided their family with the opportunity for organ and tissue donation. Siwutha Meas will always be remembered for her contagious laugh and generous spirit. Her family will always remember her as a hero, and are committed to keeping her legacy alive.

Siwutha’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and continue to have a positive impact on her community.
