ALEXANDER’S STORY

Alexander Bush was always unapologetically “Alex.” He had an uncanny blend of goofiness and seriousness that just naturally attracted people. He was as comfortable holding a conversation with school friends as he was with his parents’ work friends who were always shocked by his charisma and maturity at just 12 years old. You could watch him visibly put on his “grown up” persona when going to speak with adults he admired, but he was never too ashamed for a hug and kiss from his parents. “He gave the absolute best hugs,” his mother Jennifer recalls.

A diehard Star Wars fan, he could talk endlessly about any aspect of the fandom, and often did. He loved video games, cooking, Pokémon, and pranks. He enthusiastically played the flute in the school band and was obsessed with hockey. He played for several house leagues in Las Vegas over the years as a goalie—just like his hero, Marc-André Fleury.

After being hit by a distracted driver while walking his sister home from school, stories flooded in from friends, coaches, and teachers about how much Alex cared for others, always offering a kind word or encouragement. His parents knew immediately that while they had never really talked about organ donation, Alex would absolutely want to help others who needed him. In the end, he was able to gift his kidneys, heart, liver, corneas, and more than 300 grafts were able to be created from his bones and tissue. Jennifer says, “While parts of his body will keep on living in others, his beautiful soul lives in our hearts forever.”
