Martin’s Story

Martin Reyes was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Martin loved watching soccer, basketball, and National Geographic channel. For his hobbies, he enjoyed drawing pictures and painting pottery. He also enjoyed going to Tijuana to visit his brother and hiking his property. Martin’s definition of relaxation was scratching off a scratcher while watching TV, playing PlayStation and drinking a beer. His favorite candy was a 3 Musketeers bar and his favorite food was carne con papas, which translates to chop steak with potatoes. Martin was a hard working individual and always had jokes, pranks, and stories up his sleeve. People who surrounded Martin would describe him as humble, caring, adventurous, funny, the life of a party and a father like figure. Martin was born and raised in Tijuana, Mexico. He had eight brothers and sisters who he loved dearly. In his early 20s, Martin met his wife, Francisca, who he then married and had two children, Martin Jr. and Carolina. He raised his family in Anaheim CA, and worked as a freezer packer for an ice cream cake company. Martin, along with his wife, worked very hard to make sure their kids had all the things they needed.

On February 21, 2010, Martin was hospitalized with a severe brain hemorrhage that resulted in harsh brain trauma and he was in a coma. Although Martin was not an organ donor on his driver’s license, his family knew that if he was asked if he could help others, he would most definitely say yes. A couple days later on February 24, 2010, Martin was taken off of life support where one of his adventures ended but he started a new one and his organs were donated. Death is seen as a negative event in life and very painful, but sometimes many positive things can come from it, like a donor’s organs can help the life of others. Martin is remembered as a great person with an amazing sense of humor.
