Organ, Tissue and Cornea Donor

Age 43 ~ Long Beach, CA

Donated on 7/21/15

Honored by Donate Life Run Walk at donatelifeoc.org

David was 43 in 2005 when he was lost suddenly to a massive stroke. He was a Long Beach native who believed in family and community. He left behind a wife, an 18-year-old daughter, a 3-day old son, a brother, sister, niece, and nephew. He was a selfless father. You could hear his laugh from miles away and made everyone feel important. He would be the man who bought extra food at the store to take outside to the homeless, and the man who coached boys’ football even though he didn’t have a son at the time. It was his wish in life to donate upon his death and OneLegacy helped fulfill that wish for David when the time came. David donated his liver, tissue, and corneas here in the US and in Korea.

David’s Story

David was 43 in 2005 when we lost him suddenly to a massive stroke. He was a Long Beach native who believed in family & community. He left behind a wife, an 18-year-old daughter, a 3-day old son, a brother, sister, niece and nephew. It was his wish in life to donate upon his death and OneLegacy helped us fulfill that wish for David when the time came.

David made every man feel important & every woman feel like a queen. You could hear his laugh from miles away. He was the man who bought extra food at the store to take outside to the homeless person, the man who coached boys’ football even though he didn’t have son at the time, the man who shook your hand and looked you in the eye so you’d know you mattered to him, and the man who loved his family more than anything in the world. His daughter reflects by saying:

“While my family sat in pain on that day in July, I was not ready to discuss organ donation. While their words filled the room, I sat numb. I said my last goodbye I would ever say to my father. Months later, we received a letter from a recipient. Beautiful words poured over the page thanking us for my dad’s donation. That is when some of the pain began to subside. I deeply missed my dad’s memories, jokes, and laughter; but what I really ached for was to feel close to him again. Even though he is not physically with us, I see his spirit in these donations and I feel his love.”

David donated his liver, tissue, and corneas here in the US, and in Korea. He was able to show our kids the selflessness that their father possessed. With his passing and an infant son who would never meet his father, he gave all of us a legacy that we celebrate and honor each day of our lives. We are so proud of him and the true hero that he is.
