Alyssa’s Story

Alyssa Jamie Galvan was born in Santa Ana, California on December 1st, 1994. Her charisma, courage, and laughter filled her family’s days with happiness that will always be cherished. She was a precious, beautiful gift, the light in her parents’ eyes. Since a tender young age, she was always passionate about helping others. She loved being around her family and friends and putting smiles on their faces. Alyssa cared about people, animals and the environment. She faithfully assisted her local football booster club to raise money by cooking meals and working the food stand with her parents. When she turned 18, Alyssa was ecstatic to sell fireworks. She loved going to the beach, Disneyland, drama class, and concerts. Alyssa created and designed her own fashion and articles of clothing. She maintained a 4.0 GPA and graduated from Segerstrom High School with honors on June 13, 2013. Alyssa attended California State University of Fullerton on a scholarship in the summer of 2013, the start of her freshman year. She was ambitious and had big dreams for her life after college.

Alyssa was an avid blood donor through the American Red Cross, and strongly believed in saving lives. She would tell her parents, “Do you know how many lives you can save by donating blood? I want to save lives, mom and dad.” On August 16, 2013, Alyssa was struck by a car and lost her life. By being an honorable blood donor, selflessly helping others and possessing a universal blood type, Alyssa was able to save 4 lives through organ donation. One of the lives saved was by the direct donation of her kidney to her aunt, OneLegacy Ambassador Veronica Cosme (float rider). They are blessed to know that their daughter saved many lives. Alyssa’s life and legacy will continue through her recipients.

“I can actually save lives by simply donating blood. I feel like a superhero with real powers. I can impact the lives of people I may or may never get the chance to meet. Donating Life is something I can and want to do for the rest of my life.” – Alyssa
