Patricia passed away and donated her organs on September 19, 2013. It was a very sad day for her family, especially, her sister Barbara. The family found solace in knowing that while they were mourning, two other families were rejoicing.  Patricia’s kidney and liver saved two lives that day.  Pat was a very caring and unselfish woman. She always put her family and others needs before her own. Before she passed away, she had taken up the mantle to care for her mother for five years.  On June 3, 2015, their mother passed away, joining Pat in everlasting peace.

Patricia’s Story

My wonderful sister, Patricia Burger, passed away and donated her organs on September 19, 2013. It was a very sad day for our family. Although my family cried tears of sadness on the day, there were two other families that cried tears of joy, for the gift of life that my sister had given them. Our family was told that a 72 year-old man received Pat’s kidney and her liver went to a 42 year-old man. We were able to share this news with everyone at the funeral and it brought so much comfort to all that were there. What a blessing.
On November 11, 2014, I received a letter from the 42 year old man that has my sister’s liver. He mentioned that the day his life was saved, and the day our family lived through a painful loss – his heart stops every time he thinks of it. He said that he looks at life in a whole new way now.  His letter brought me comfort and a few smiles.
Pat was a very caring and unselfish woman. She always put her family and others’ needs before her own. She was a caretaker to my mom for about 5 years. I never thought that Pat would pass away before my mom. My mom just passed away June 3, 2015. Now Pat and mom are together again.
LiveOnNY has checked in with me several times to see how my family is coping. I am thankful for their continued concern. I have been involved as a Hospice volunteer for the past few years and try to give comfort and care to those who need me, just as LiveOnNYn does.
