Marley Sirjane had a huge heart and a zest for life that gave all those around her energy. Marley packed a lot of love, life and adventure into her short 18 years. For her, there were no road blocks, only hurdles. She relished in supporting the ‘underdog’ in every aspect of her life. On the morning of her death, Marley’s heart was filled with passion, love, and happiness as evidenced by her non-stop captivating smile and big radiant blue eyes. This is how her family will remember her.  Her ‘gifts of life’ sustains her family in knowing that she continues to smile, laugh and care through others still walking on this earth.

Marley’s Story

Marley was born in August of 1993 and was a 2011 graduate of Thetford Academy in Thetford, VT. She grew up in Thetford Center, VT with her roots buried deep into our hillside; she loved her log home and was a very proud Vermonter.

Marley was our youngest daughter of two and had big plans; her life was filled with hope and endless dreams. She planned to enter University and study nursing; she was an LNA and an EMT as well as an accomplished equestrian. She loved foxhunting and she rode most recently with North Country Hounds. For eight years she attended horsemanship camp at Road’s End Farm in Chesterfield, New Hampshire, and was a counselor there in the summer of 2011. It was there she found a second home and reveled in the joy and love of her friends and the farms horses and especially her favorite mount Montana, a once wild mustang.

On the morning of Sunday, November 20, 2011, Marley was involved in a single car accident on Interstate 91 in Bradford, Vermont, while returning home from a fox hunt. She was 18 years old.

“She was a true gift, a gift taken all too soon,” recalls Marley’s mother, Penny Sirjane. “We know the future holds a reunion for us all but until then her ‘gifts of life’ to many recipients will sustain her family in knowing that she continues to smile, laugh and care through others still walking on this earth – the ultimate gift, the gift of life.”

Weeks later, Marley’s family received a letter about the organ recipients, both medically and personally. Marley changed the lives of 59 people with the donation of her bones, heart valves, and skin tissue.
