Dr. Vance LeCrone was a handsome, 43 year old devoted husband, loving father of three, and faithful son and brother.  Vance was a deeply generous man and found great joy in giving to and helping those in need.  On July 28, 2014, he collapsed while exercising. Eight days later, he passed away peacefully in his wife’s arms. Vance was a registered donor and the donation process brought meaning to his family’s grief.  True to form, Vance left this world a giver and there is no question he would have had it any other way.

Vance’s Story

Dr. Vance LeCrone was a handsome, 43 year old devoted husband, loving father of three, and faithful son and brother.  He was also a fiercely loyal friend, avid golfer, gifted orthodontist, and a man of tenacious faith.  Vance’s warm sense of humor would light up the room and his heart was pure gold.  He was deeply generous and found great joy in giving to and helping those in need within his community and beyond.
On July 28th, 2014, his wife, Amy, received a devastating call that Vance had collapsed while exercising at the gym and was unconscious and unresponsive.  After being on life support for 8 days, Vance peacefully passed away in her arms and with loving family and pastor by his side.   Prior to his passing, the family was approached by Life Gift, the organ procurement organization aligned with Memorial Hermann Hospital The Woodlands.  It was of no surprise that Vance was a registered donor in Texas.
“Vance made the decision for us. We are grateful for this and the donation process was very touching and brought meaning to our grief.  In true Vance fashion, he left this world a giver and there is no question he would have had it any other way.  To me, organ donation represents the deepest form of generosity.  Vance allowed life to grow from his death.  It helps our hearts heal knowing the gift of hope that Vance gave to so many.  Something positive has come out of our tragedy,” said his widow, Amy Anderson LeCrone.
Vance blessed countless lives through being an organ, eye, and tissue donor. A 40 year old and a 63 year old male are among two known recipients of his kidneys. Vance was very close to his blinded grandfather, so the gift of sight through his corneas is special to the family.  His loss rippled through The Woodlands, Texas and at a December 2014 “Helping Hearts” event organized in his memory, Life Gift registered more donors than they had at any other local event in one day.
What Vance accomplished in 43 shorts years of life, most don’t achieve in their lifetime.  His success wasn’t measured by money or possessions; rather his wealth was the rich life he lived with purpose, passion, and love for so many others.  He will be remembered for having his priorities straight and what a blessing that legacy is to us all.
