NEIL’S STORY

Neil Manhar Patel

JANUARY 6, 1983 – MARCH 19, 2021

Born in Pontiac, MI, he was the son of Gira and Manhar Patel, brother of Nihar Patel, and uncle to Jag Patel. He graduated from Chapin High School, SC, where he was a star basketball player and famously called "Chief."

Neil died in a car accident, and from this tragedy, his family learned Neil was a registered organ donor. This choice has been an incredible legacy that has given the Patel family a way for Neil to live on through the lives he has touched and saved by receiving his organs.

Neil was the gentlest soul. Neil never knew a stranger; he was frequently known to help the homeless and anyone that may need assistance by sharing clothes, food, and shelter. People would often say that Neil would "give the shirt off his back," something his family actually witnessed often. Neil had an extraordinary wit about him that was just so charming.

Neil would frequently be found watching sports with his best friends, brother, nephew, and cracking everyone up with his sense of humor. He was a lover of basketball, philosophical discussions, dogs, and family. Neil loved rooting for his favorite teams: Michigan Wolverines and South Carolina Gamecocks.

Neil worked in the family steel business alongside his mom.

He is missed beyond measure every day.
