ENRIQUE’S STORY

Enrique Rivas had an indomitable spirit. He deeply loved nature and cherished every moment of his existence. Ricky, as he was affectionately known, had an infectious zest for life, with a profound appreciation for music and a special fondness for children. Within his family, he was adored and held the center of attention. Ricky's optimistic outlook allowed him to find the silver lining in every situation, always assuming the role of a peacemaker. Ricky worked at Hope of The Valley Rescue Mission. He enjoyed playing his guitar in his free time and dropped off meals for the homeless. His musical talents were also utilized for fundraising events that supported organizations combating homelessness and organizing Christmas toy drives. Ricky was involved with organizations like About My Father's Business Outreach and Alas de Libertad Outreach in Canoga Park. He wanted to improve the world and started most conversations by saying, "How can we make this a better world and make a change?" His mother always answered him, "One person at a time, my son." Enrique Rivas, a vibrant and passionate Latino, tragically died in a car accident, at the age of 22. In his passing, Enrique saved five people in one day through his heroic decision to donate. His heart went to a mother who is also a teacher. He also donated each of his kidneys, his lungs, and his liver. His heavily publicized donations brought awareness of organ donation to his community, allowing him to "Make this a better world and make change."
