Barbara Schulman RN, CPTC, has been a leader in organ procurement in Southern California and nationwide. She served as the University of Southern California kidney/pancreas transplant liaison, expert and advisor to dialysis center patients, staff and nephrologists from 2000-2006. She was senior donor development coordinator for American Red Cross Tissue Services from 1995-1997; senior transplant coordinator for the Regional Organ Procurement Agency (ROPA) of Southern California from 1974 to 1992; and consultant to the California Medical Association (CMA) committee on organ transplantation from 1982 to 1994.

Schulman is noted for launching the North American Transplant Coordinators Organization (NATCO) in 1975 and was elected its first president in 1979. She was also a founding member of the Board of Governors of the American Board of Transplant Coordinators (ABTC) and an original board member of the Transplant Recipient International Organization (TRIO) and a founder and advisor to the TRIO Los Angeles Chapter.
