STARS OF LIFE WALK OF FAME
The 2009 Donate Life float, Stars of Life, features a shower of stars soaring above 26 donor family, living donor, and recipient float riders. Among the ‘Stars of Life’ are 34 gold stars with floragraphs – artistic portraits created with floral materials – depicting loved ones whose donations of organs, corneas and/or tissue saved and healed those in need. White stars represent those among us who have been touched by donation, while outlined stars symbolize those in need of donated organs, corneas and tissue. The large orange-yellow stars at the front of the float carry more than 1,000 dedicated roses, each carrying a personal message of love, gratitude and hope in honor of a donor, recipient or candidate in need of a life-saving transplant.
Honoring Donate Life Luminaries
The Donate Life Float Committee is pleased to announce an additional element on our 2009 float entry: the Stars of Life Walk of Fame. Inspired by the Hollywood Walk of Fame, this cluster of stars will honor 14 luminaries in the field of donation and transplantation, allowing physicians, community leaders and civic officials the opportunity to be honored alongside donor family members, living donors and transplant recipients.
Call for Nominations
You are invited to nominate individuals to be recognized in the Stars of Life Walk of Fame. Simply email the nominee’s name, title, affiliation and hometown along with up to 250 words describing how the nominee has made a positive, lasting impact on organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation through contributions to medicine, the community, or public policy to Donate Life Float Committee member Jennifer Moe, Director of Communications at Donor Alliance, jmoe@donoralliance.org.. Please be sure to type “Stars of Life Walk of Fame” as the subject.
The Donate Life Float Committee will select fourteen honorees whose names will appear on the Walk of Fame stars on the 2009 Donate Life float, Stars of Life. All nominations must be received by end of day September 10, 2008 in order to be considered.
Thank you for helping us honor our community’s ‘Stars of Life’ on New Year’s Day 2009!
