Group Name: Donate Life

Float Theme: ...One More Day

Why was this theme chosen?
Through their life-changing experiences, the families of organ and tissue donors, living donors, and recipients of life-saving transplants know intimately the preciousness of time. Donate Life invites everyone to imagine "...One More Day" to remember a loved one, celebrate life, keep hope alive, and make a difference to others.

How does our theme relate to the Parade theme, Just Imagine...?
The opportunity to live, or relive, a precious moment in time inspires us to "Just Imagine...One More Day" when donor families are reunited with loved ones, transplant recipients thrive, and living and registered donors step forward so that a life-saving transplant is available to everyone in need.

What is the significance of the theme to your group?
Donate Life hopes millions of parade viewers and spectators are inspired to take just a few minutes to make a difference that lasts a lifetime. Don't let one more day go by without joining more than 100 million Americans who have registered as organ, eye and tissue donors. Sign up today by visiting Donate Life America at www.donatelife.net.

Float Designer's Name: Dave Pittman

Float Description:
Inspired by floral clocks and clock towers of the world, Donate Life’s ninth Rose Parade float entry carries 28 riders representing deceased organ, eye and tissue donors, living donors, and transplant recipients reminding us all to make every day count. Six floral clocks are adorned with 72 memorial 'floragraph' portraits of deceased donors, whose gifts of organs and tissues add years and quality of life to those in need of transplants. Gears run the length of the float to a 33-foot clock tower with an animated sun/moon dial marking the passing of "...One More Day." Leading the float is a dedication garden honoring thousands of organ, eye and tissue donors and recipients nationwide, with a rose vials carrying personal messages of love, hope and remembrance.

Concept:
With the passing of each hour, minute and second, the hands of a clock remind us that time is precious. Whether you are looking back at priceless memories or dreaming of the future, you can make every day count by registering as an organ and tissue donor.

Construction Dimensions: 33’H x 17’W x 55’L

Flowering Details:
TBA

Animation: The sun/moon dial on the clock tower rotates to mark the passing of "...One More Day." The minute hand on the front-facing floral clock moves backwards in recognition of the many donors memorialized in tributes in the float's dedication garden.

Float Participants:
The 2012 Donate Life Rose Parade float features:

  • 28 float riders, each a transplant recipient, living donor, or family members of an organ, eye or tissue donor.

Participating Organization Information:
Donate Life is a national brand for donation supported by national organizations and state teams dedicated to motivating the American public to register now as organ, eye and tissue donors. Hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life in every corner of the country are in need of life-saving and healing gifts that are possible only through organ, eye and tissue. The Donate Life Rose Parade Float national campaign is coordinated by OneLegacy, the non-profit, federally designated organ and tissue recovery agency serving the seven-county greater Los Angeles area, and is supported by more than 100 official sponsors nationwide, including organ and tissue recovery organizations, tissue banks, state donor registries, transplant centers, hospitals, funeral homes and affiliated organizations. Joining OneLegacy as top-level benefactors are the Dignity Memorial® network, North America's largest network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers; the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB); Donate Life America; and the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and the National Donor Memorial.

Of Special Interest:

  • On Dec. 3, 10 and 17, families of the donors depicted in the floragraphs will journey to decorate the portraits of their loved ones. Between Dec. 7-20, families not traveling to Pasadena will put the finishing touches on their loved ones' portraits at more than 40 local floragraph decorating events across the country.
  • Participating in the decoration of the Donate Life float are hundreds of donor family members celebrating their loved ones, transplant recipients honoring their donors, living donors, and allied professionals who steward the donation and transplant process.
  • The logos on each side of the Donate Life float will again be presented both in English and in Spanish (“Done Vida”) – a multicultural feature first introduced in the 2006 Rose Parade.
  • Donate Life is proud to provide official artist renderings in multiple languages.
  • Donate Life was awarded the Judges Special Trophy in 2008, the Queen's Trophy in 2009, and the Theme Trophy in 2010 and 2011.
  • All Donate Life float sponsors and participants encourage parade viewers to save lives by registering in their states to be organ, eye and tissue donors and donating blood in their communities.
