Serina Dee Scheler enjoyed swimming and bike riding, and most of all she enjoyed taking care of animals. She was an avid lover of all animals and wanted to volunteer at the local safari as soon as she was old enough. It was no surprise that her goal was to become a veterinarian.

Serina was also a devoted humanitarian from a young age; she was always seeking ways to help those she saw in need. Whether finding food for someone who was hungry or packing things into someone’s car, she was eager to lend a helping hand.

“Though earth-friendliness was not yet a trend, Serina was on the forefront of keeping our planet healthy. She was moved by nature and was impressed by the beauty with which God blessed the world,” recalled her sister Twana Phelps.

On June 30, 1997, shortly before her 13th birthday, Serina’s life was cut short by a tragic car accident. When her father was asked about organ donation, he knew it was what Serina would have wanted.

“As a young girl, Serina was a beacon of love and hope, and the world is a better place because of her,” said Rene.
