Haley Jeannette Moore was born at 11:21 p.m. on June 2, 1990, a minute before her twin sister, Jessica Louise. Throughout her life, starting as early as five, she was active in t-ball, swimming, volleyball, and softball.

On August 2, 2007, Haley was days from starting her senior year of high school when a tragic car accident took her life. The next day, 17-year-old Haley was pronounced dead due to severe head trauma, but she was kept on life support for two more days.

Haley was a very compassionate person with a huge heart, empathetic to the needs and feelings of others. The day of the accident, the waiting rooms and halls of the hospital were filled with family, friends and acquaintances. The hospital staff was so touched by how many peoples’ lives she had made an impact on, they agreed to let about 150 see her, two at a time, to pay their last respects.

“At her funeral, several people approached us and said, ‘You don't know me and I only met Haley once, but she left such a lasting impression, I had to pay my respects,’” recalled her mother, Vickie.

“When the time came for my husband, the hospital chaplain, and the Life Quest representative to talk to me about donating her organs, I was very skeptical and selfish at first. Nobody could have my baby, if I couldn't,” continued Vickie. “I prayed hard for two nights and asked God for strength and a sign to do the right thing. Then, it hit me! Four or five months before the accident, Haley had come to me and said she wanted to be an organ donor and have it put on her driver's license. We talked about her decision and how this came about, and I told her ‘of course.’ I was very proud of the research she did and the decision she made. Her dad chose to be an organ donor several years ago and I have also chosen to be an organ donor.”

Within five hours of the Moores’ consent, Life Quest had located six people who were prepped and ready to receive Haley's organs and start a new life. Haley’s heart was donated to a woman in Virginia; her liver to a teen in Florida; her lungs to a man in North Carolina; her pancreas to a woman in New Jersey; and her kidneys to women in Georgia and Mississippi.

“Knowing that the lives of six people have been renewed and restored by Haley, I could never imagine not making this decision,” said Vickie. “We know Haley lives on in each of the recipients. They will always hold a special place in our hearts. I pray each night for the chance to hug and kiss each and every one of them. As Haley's headstone reads, ‘She touched the hearts of every person she met!’ And I bet she just touched a few more that she hasn't met. She is truly one of God’s angels!”
