Danny Bost would help anyone that he could, no matter what race or gender. He tried to instill this value in his children and grandchildren. "Dad taught his three girls to care for others as you would want them to care for you," said his daughter Christy. One morning in September 2010, Danny suffered a stroke and did not wake up after emergency surgery was completed. Danny's family knew Danny would want to help others by being a donor. According to his wife Jean, "Danny would be happy to know that he helped save many lives in his passing." With the gifts of his liver, kidneys, corneas and bone, he did just that.

Danny's Story

Danny Bost was a caring man, full of love. He would help anyone that he could, no matter what race or gender. He tried to instill this value in his children and grandchildren. "Dad taught his three girls to care for others as you would want them to care for you," said his daughter Christy. "He always listened to our problems and gave us advice. If anyone was stranded, he would stop and help them out. Also if someone needed something and he had it, they would receive it."

On the morning of September 21, 2010, Danny woke up and was not able to walk through the house; he was taken to the hospital, where it was determined he had suffered a stroke. The next day, Danny had to have emergency surgery and did not wake up when surgery was completed.

The following morning, the family met with all the doctors along with an employee from Carolina Donor Services. At the meeting, the family was asked if Danny had ever discussed being a donor. Danny's wife Jean said no, but one of their daughters, Dawn, spoke up and said, "Mom, you know Dad would give the shirt off his back if it would help them." At that time, Jean decided that it would give the family great joy in knowing that Danny was able to help someone else live longer by being a donor. With the gifts of his liver, kidneys, corneas and bone, he did just that.

"Donating his organs was the last good deed we could do for Danny," said Jean. "Danny would be happy to know that he helped save many lives in his passing." Christy considers her father's donation a heroic act.

Jean has received letters from some of Danny's organ recipients, and it has given the family great joy knowing that he was able to help people even after he died.
