Raymond Costlow was very familiar with organ donation. In December 2001, his brother-in-law Ted Askier, who had been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, got a second chance at life when he received a lung transplant. His family then made it their mission to help those who are still on the transplant waiting list.

In 2004, the Askiers became involved in the Donate Life Run/Walk and formed “Team Ted,” which included Ray. By 2007, “Team Ted” had over 50 members and was named the top fundraiser, collecting $8,500 in donations.

Just six days before the Donate Life Run/Walk 2007, Ray died of a massive heart attack. When Ray's family was asked about donation at the hospital, they knew the answer without any hesitation.
