Paul's Story

The youngest of three children, Paul J. Sciullo II grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. In high school, he played golf and was captain of the ice hockey team. At Duquesne University, he continued playing both sports and graduated with a degree in Psychology.

Paul tried a few different professions, but always felt that he wanted to make a difference in the world. This belief led him to become a police officer and a registered organ donor.

On April 4, 2009, Paul was tragically killed in a deadly attack on police officers. At age 36, he was among the first Pittsburgh city officers killed in the line of duty in 18 years.

Paul was given the Medal of Valor, the highest honor presented by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. He was also honored with a Purple Heart for his service and sacrifice.

Paul's parents Paul "Max" and Sue Sciullo signed up to become organ donors as a result of their son's donation. As they told a local reporter, "We lost a son, but we gained a family with the Pittsburgh Police. We thank them very much. They helped us get through a lot."

Numerous scholarships, awards and philanthropic fundraisers have been established in Paul's name. Both as an officer and as a tissue donor, Paul has truly made a difference in the world.
