David William Krebs liked to spend time with his family and friends, whether at home, at church, or at his local Elks Lodge. He was a compassionate man who would help anyone and was usually the first to volunteer, including delivering food baskets at Christmas, his favorite time of year. On November 29, 2008, 65-year-old David died from a left cerebral stroke. Fortunately, he had told his daughter Tracey that he wanted to be an organ donor. David's family learned that his tissue and cornea donations became Christmas gifts for 50 to 100 people.

David's Story

David William Krebs was born and raised in Dover, Ohio. In May 1972, he and his wife, Sharon, and their two children moved to California. David liked to spend time with his family and friends, whether at home, at church, or at his local Elks Lodge. He was a compassionate man who would help anyone in need and was usually the first to volunteer, including passing out free dictionaries to third graders at area schools and delivering Christmas food baskets to those in need.

David was scheduled to have an angioplasty on November 24, 2008. Sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning, 65-year-old David suffered a left cerebral stroke. At the hospital, tests revealed that he had been previously experiencing mini-strokes. David died five days later on November 29.

Fortunately, David had told his daughter Tracey that he wanted to be an organ donor. David's family learned that his tissue and cornea donations became Christmas gifts for between 50 to 100 people.

"We feel awesome that his donations got to be gifts for others at his favorite time of year," Tracey said. "Anytime we feel sad when thinking of him, we just start thinking about how many lives he changed just from his family saying 'yes'."
