Jon's tissue helped to improve the quality of life for many people.

Jon's Story

From the beginning, Jon David (or JD as he was often called) was full of life and a joy to be around. He loved to draw, play the drums and listen to music. He also loved to play sports - his favorites were baseball and soccer. JD developed his athletic skills early on and had a promising future. He was never afraid of learning or trying new things and always gave his all in whatever he did.

JD's smile and laugh were infectious, and he always tried to cheer up those who needed it. He inspired many of his friends, teammates and other players with his courageous, never-give-up attitude.

On Dec. 30, 2006, Jon was killed in an auto accident. In the midst of this tragic time, his family was faced with the difficult decision of organ donation. "Being that he was only 16 when he died, our family never talked to him about his wishes if something were to happen to him," said his father, Mike. "So we were faced with making that decision for him. When we received the call about donating Jon's tissue, we knew that it was going to be tough to let him go. But, knowing the kind and caring person he was, making the decision did help to improve the quality of life for many people.

"Jon was a miracle for our family, and he taught us a lot about life, family, and never-ending love in the short time he was here. He will forever be in our hearts and lives on in others from the miraculous gift he gave."
