Sandra Priscilla Crespo was a beautiful, caring 32-year-old with an infectious smile and great sense of humor. She cherished her son Julian and her family. At the age of 29, Sandy was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. When a liver became available a year later, everyone was elated. Shortly after her transplant, Sandy signed up to be a donor to help another family one day. Her road was not easy - she was hospitalized many times, and her liver condition affected her vision. When she lost her battle on earth, she was still able to donate the gift of sight. Her sister, Cynthia Crespo, affirmed that "She left this earth doing what she loved most, helping others."

Sandra's Story

Sandra Priscilla Crespo was a beautiful, funny, and caring 32-year-old whose infectious smile immediately lit up every room she entered. She loved her family and was best known for her sense of humor and being a child at heart. Sandy loved to use her creativity to bake all kinds of cakes and treats for family gatherings. Her spirit was pure, and she cherished being a mother to her son, Julian Alexander Crespo.

In 2009, at the age of 29, Sandy was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. "Our family's lives were changed forever," recalled her sister, Cynthia Crespo. "Sandy tried to maintain her funny spirit, but we were all anxiously waiting for the day she would receive the call that a liver was available for her. Finally in June 2010 the call we so longed for came."

Sandy pulled through the transplant surgery safely with few complications. Shortly after, she made the decision to become a donor in order to help another family one day. She began the road to recovery but ran into many health issues and was hospitalized several times. Her vision deteriorated and she struggled to recognize faces. For a time, she could not see anything at all.

At 2:15 pm on January 27, 2013, she finally took her last breath. Sandy had lost her battle on this earth. She was 32.

Immediately after returning from the hospital, the broken-hearted family received a call from Tissue Banks International advising them that Sandy's corneas could be donated. "We were shocked to learn the reason she couldn't see anything prior to her passing was due to complications with her liver. Her eyes were actually in good condition," Cynthia said.

Now life had come full circle, and it was Sandy's turn to be a blessing to another family, the same way her family was blessed just two years before.

"It gives our family great pride to know that Sandy's life was not in vain." Cynthia affirmed. "She left this earth doing what she loved most, helping others."
